GETTING YOUR MOTIVATION BACK!!
“Feeling lazy, uninspired, unproductive, lacking motivation and creativity ; then this is for you!!”
For a while there i had been feeling, unmotivated, uninspired and experiencing some mental blocks. There was a lot going on in my life and this was beginning to even affect my attitude towards life- like doubting myself and allowing negativity into my life. I didn’t like how thing were going so i took a step back to know how i would adjust and find ways in which i could bounce back to the motivated and inspired me.
You may have hit some blocks in your life like i did; and some may be worse. I totally feel you and In this blog post i will discuss some helpful things that enabled me get back and will also hopefully get you to the motivated and inspired you.
So, lets do this!!
PART ONE: The Problem
Get Clear on the problem
The first step is to acknowledge that there is a problem. If we don’t recognize there is a problem then we have nothing to solve. We have these amazing bodies that send us signals when things are not OK such as feeling fatigued, insomnia, anger, mental blocks etc. The good thing about this is that it makes us realize that there are some changes that we need to make in our lives so that we can come back to our state of alignment.
So, what events have led you up to feeling this way?
This can be categorized into two:
Here there is nothing major that has happened in your life. You may just have become overwhelmed by the busyness of life or perhaps you have fallen into a rut and now feel unproductive, unmotivated, uninspired and even lacking creativity. For these issues you just need some little adjustments in life and you are good.
You may have undergone some tragic or very difficult situations such as loosing someone close to you, failed relationship, being diagnosed with a major disease or condition, loosing a job, business failing . For such issues you need more help. You need to talk to someone to help you navigate through such difficult circumstances and come back to a place where you can start functioning better again
PART TWO: The Solution
The SECRET to start taking action is to start doing small tasks- Do a task that will take you 2 mins, then 5 mins, 20 mins, 40 mins, and hour and so on. Once you complete the 2 mins tasks you feel good and this motivates you to do the 5 mins tasks which propels you again to do the 20 mins task. You start to gain momentum and it causes this ripple effect in all areas of your life and you get back your inspiration and motivation to do things you love and become productive once again.
So, what actions can you take?
Have you been feeling overwhelmed, tired, unfocused, unproductive, un-creative and uninspired. This is your body trying to tell you that you need to take a break . We cannot just work work work all the time. Our bodies need to rest and recharge. So do the following
- Get some sleep- enough sleep
- Treat your body- massage, manicure, pedicure
- Slow down- meditate
- Go for a nature walk
Expose Yourself to Things that Inspire You
When you are in a negative state, you attract more negativity. So what you need to do to get out of this state is to start exposing yourself to positive things , no matter how small they may seem. This one thing will lead to another positive thing and then another and another and soon you will start noticing you are in a better mood and this will inspire you to become the motivated, creative and productive you
Here are some ideas to inspire you:
- Listen to inspiring audios or podcasts
- Listen to music that lifts your mood
- Watch inspiring Movies, documentaries
- Watch funny things- A good laugh is a step in the right direction
- Read inspiring and motivating books, articles, blog-posts, quotes
- Hang out with a funny friend or someone who inspires you
- Go online and look for inspiring things
It is difficult to be inspired when things in your mind or around you are cluttered. Do you have too many goals or tasks that you want to accomplish or is your living and working space disorganized?
- Write down all the tasks you want to accomplish and then categorize them in order of priority and start acting on them, from the most important.
- Clean up your house and open the windows-get some fresh air
- Organize your desk/ office space
- Organize your wardrobe and get rid of stuff that you don’t really need or you don’t use-sell or donate
- Organize your bedroom, living room, kitchen
Change your Environment/ Try Something New
When we become too accustomed to something, it becomes boring and we start loosing motivation. We need to make some changes, a little tweaks here and there, add some spice to your life.
This really worked for me in my recent block. I re-organized my space and i discovered i had so much space to work with (i had been complaining i din’t have enough space) and the new look brings in some freshness and vibrance to life. I also went for a get-away out of town. I had a lot of fun, meeting new people, building friendships, clearing my head and having a new perspective towards life. I came back inspired.
So try out these ideas:
- Re-organize your furniture/ closet
- Put on new curtains/different color
- Try out a new lipstick color or different hairstyle
- Use a different route to work/home
- Go out of town for the weekend or a few days
- Change out your routine-workout routine, foods you eat,
- Try out a new restaurant-don’t just keep eating at the same place
- Take a walk if you are mostly in the house
I know what you are thinking…”Like Seriously, Joan are you crazy?” This time you just feel like you don’t want to get out of bed or the house. And this may be good for just a while, but staying in this mode for too long will get you more lazy and feeling more uninspired. But exercise is know to allow the release of endorphin chemicals which trigger positive feeling in the body. Once you experience this good feeling in your body, you will be inspired to do more. And also exercising also improves memory and alertness and this makes you productive.Just push yourself, take that first step and a few minutes into it you will start to gain momentum and by the time you are done you will be so grateful you did it.
It doesn’t have to be boring- do something you can enjoy- like dancing, swimming, playing tennis, go hiking
I know at this time you want to eat comfort food and all the junk food- a little may not hurt but overdoing on this will just make you feel lazy and bad just like in the previous point. So take something that will energize your body. You could even do a detox to get rid of those toxins in your body.
- So drink up that protein shake
- Take some lemon water or detox drinks
- Take lots of water
- Eat fruits and vegetables
Its important to realize that at one point or another we all go through such moments. It is normal. We can cry, mourn, feel crappy; But what we need to ensure is that we don’t get stuck there.
Just Do something!!
You Got This!! 🙂 🙂
